Ajax Squads

The unbeaten side of 1994-95 and the team that nearly repeated it in 2019 — the club that keeps building great squads and then watching them leave.

The club, season by season

Van Gaal's 1994-95 team won the Champions League and the Eredivisie without losing a league match, with Van der Sar, Rijkaard, Litmanen and both De Boers, and it was dismantled by Bosman within two years. The 2018-19 side did the modern version: knocked out the holders at the Bernabéu, then Juventus, then led at Tottenham until the final minute of the semi-final, with De Ligt at 19 and De Jong at 21. Both squads were sold off almost immediately afterwards.

In the draft

The only club hub with nobody rated 90 or above, and that is the point. What you draft here is a set of well-rounded high-80s players and a first XI that plays above the sum of its ratings, which is exactly what both real squads did. Nobody appears in both, so the two draft as different clubs.

Every Ajax squad below can turn up when you spin the wheel — the highest-rated of them all is Jari Litmanen (90), and the best XI these 2 squads could theoretically assemble averages 87.1. You don't get to pick: the wheel decides which squad you draft from, one pick at a time. That is the whole shape of it: you draft your own XI first, then find out what it was worth.

Players in more than one of them

None. Not one player appears in two Ajax squads in this database — the sides were rebuilt completely between them, which is rarer than it sounds: at Milan, Maldini is in all four.
